Q: Why can I no longer start my browser first and have it prompt me to connect? Why do I have to connect first and THEN start my browser?

A: Let’s first make sure that you have the feature for this enabled.

  1. Click Start | Settings | Control panel.
  2. Make sure you have an Internet icon. If you don’t, this feature cannot be used on your system. If you do have an Internet icon, and you double click it, you may find this feature in three places:
    • Under the Auto Dial tab. Make sure "use auto dial" is checked, then make sure your INTERALB, Ltd. connection is selected below it.
    • Under the Connection tab. Make sure "connect to the Internet as needed" is checked, and make sure INTERALB, Ltd. is selected as your connection to use.
    • If you have Internet Explorer 4.x, under the Connection tab you will need to make sure "connect to the Internet using a modem" is selected. Click Settings, and make sure your InterAlb. connection is selected at the top. Then click OK.

If you use Internet Explorer, try this fix.

  1. Connect to InterAlb. using your Dial Up Networking icon.
  2. Open Internet Explorer
  3. After the home page loads, erase everything typed in the Address line and retype the InterAlb.
  4. The page will reload. Close Internet Explorer.
  5. Disconnect from InterAlb
  6. Reopen Internet Explorer and see if the Connect To screen appears.

If all of these steps fail, you now join the 50 percent of other Windows 95 users who experience the same thing. There is no explanation why Windows 95 "loses" the ability to autoconnect when you start a browser first. And, there is no way to fix this bug either. It is just something we have to learn to live with. You can create a shortcut on your desktop, which allows you to connect without having to open the Dial Up Networking folder every time.

  1. From the desktop, double click on My Computer | Dial Up Networking
  2. Right-click on the INTERALB icon and select Create Shortcut.
  3. When the error message appears, click Yes.
  4. Close all windows and you will now have a shortcut you can use to connect.

Q: Where did the Auto Disconnect prompt go? or How do I disconnect from INTERALB, Ltd.?
A:

  1. In order to disconnect after you exit your browser, look at the bottom right-hand corner of your desktop. You should see the time of day clock.
  2. To the left of that clock will appear two tiny computers linked together or a small black box with red and green lights. Right-click on this symbol and select Disconnect with the left button.

You can also try these steps.

  1. Click Start | Find | Files or Folders
  2. In the Named box, type url.dll and ensure the Look In box lists the C: drive.
  3. Click on Find Now.
  4. If the url.dll file exists in the Windows\System folder, rename it by right clicking on the file, selecting Rename. Change the .dll to .old.
  5. You may find a copy of url.dll in a Netscape subdirectory. If so, copy it to Windows\System directory.
  6. Restart your computer.

Q: How do I remove the Content Advisor?
A:

  1. Close Internet Explorer
  2. From the Desktop, click on Start | Find | Files or Folders
  3. Ensure that the box marked Look In shows the C: drive and not another drive letter or folder
  4. In the Named box, type: ratings.pol and click Find Now
If you find this file, delete it and close this window. If you do not find this file, continue with the steps below.
  5. Open the Control Panel and double click on the Internet icon
  6. Click the Content tab
  7. Click on Disable ratings. If ratings are already disabled , click on the settings button, and then just put a setting in and hit ok. This will create a new ratings.pol file, so it should stop giving you the error about invalid configuration.
  8. Type the Supervisor Password, and then click OK.
  9. If you don't know the Supervisor Password, continue with the steps below.

The following steps are for severe Internet Explorer problems ONLY. Making a mistake during the steps below could severely affect your computer and could possibly prevent it from booting.
