Outlook 98/2000/Express


 

Q: How to create a new account at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. At Outlook 98/2000/Express, Click Tools | Accounts.
  2. Click Mail tab,
  3. Click Add and choose Mail.
  4. Follow the steps.
  5. At the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) server, type: mail.interalb.net
  6. At the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server, type: mail.interalb.net
  7. After finishing all click Properties.
  8. You will see the configuration of your new mail account. Click Servers.
  9. Check the box at the last paragraph "My server requires authentication".
  10. Click OK and then Close

Q: How can I read an attachment at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. You should see a paperclip displayed in the gray Preview Pane header just above the text of the e-mail.
  2. Right click on the paperclip and select Save attachment
  3. Select the directory you want to save the file in. You want to be able to find the file later.
  4. Use the appropriate program to open the attachment. For example, if someone sent you a MS Word document, then you need MS Word or a program that can use MS Word files to use the attachment.

Q: How can I attach a document at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. Create a new message.
  2. Click on Insert | File Attachment
  3. Select the file you want to attach and click Attach. (You have to know where the file you want to attach is.)
  4. Send your mail.

Q: How to change the display name at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. In Outlook 98/2000/Express, click on Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties
  2. Change the information under Name to the name you want to appear. You may leave this field blank.

Q: How to control the e-mail settings at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. At Outlook 98/2000/Express, click on Tools | Accounts | Properties
  2. Make sure your e-mail address and reply-to address are correct.
  3. Click on Servers tab
  4. Outgoing mail SMTP server: mail.interalb.net
  5. Incoming mail POP3 server: mail.interalb.net
  6. Your account name should be everything before the @interalb.net in your e-mail address
  7. Click OK.

Q: How to create filters at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. Click on Tools | Inbox Assistant
  2. Click on Add
  3. Now you must select the criteria you want to use. You can sort mail by who it is addressed To, who it is coming From, what the Subject is, and if the mail is larger than XX KB.
  4. Most people should sort their mail using the From or Subject criteria. For example, if you want mail coming From a particular e-mail address filtered, put the e-mail address in the From box.
  5. Once you have selected how mail is sorted, you must chose what action you want applied to that mail. You can have mail Moved to another folder, Forwarded to another e-mail address, Reply with a particular message, Left on INTERALB, Ltd. servers or Deleted directly from our servers without ever seeing it. This last option works best for removing unwanted e-mails like SPAM.

Q: How to be notified from Outlook 98/2000/Express when a new email has arrived?
A:

Outlook 98/2000/Express uses the default Windows 95 "chimes.wav" which is a 2 second sound that you may not hear. In order to be notified that you have new mail, you must be connected to Interalb, Ltd. and have Outlook 98/2000/Express running.

  1. Click on Tools | Options | General tab
  2. Put a check mark in Play a sound when new messages arrive.
  3. Click OK

To change the default sound that is played when you download your e-mail, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Sounds.
  3. In the Events box, click New Mail Notification.
  4. In the Name box, click the .wav file you want.
    NOTE: To hear the .wav file you selected, click the Play button under Preview.
  5. Click OK.

Q: How to delete my messages from the server?
A:

  1. Open Outlook 98/2000/Express
  2. Click on Tools | Accounts
  3. Click on the Mail tab
  4. Highlight your mail account and click on Properties
  5. Click on Advanced
  6. In the Delivery section, make sure the box labeled "Leave a copy of messages on server" is NOT checked.

Q: How to save the Address Book at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. In Outlook 98/2000/Express, click on File | Export > Address book
  2. Select Text File (Comma separated values) and click Export
  3. Name the file and select the location you want to save the file to. Click Next.
  4. Select the fields you want to export and click Finish.

Q: How to restore the Address Book at Outlook 98/2000/Express?
A:

  1. In Outlook 98/2000/Express
  2. Click on File | Import > Address book
  3. Select Text File (Comma separated values) and click Import
  4. Select the file you previously Exported and click Next
  5. Select the fields you want to Import.

If you think you have lost the address book, follow these steps:

  1. From the Desktop, click on Start | Find | Files or Folders.
  2. Ensure that the box marked Look In shows the C: drive and not another drive letter or folder.
  3. In the Named box, type: *.wab and click Find Now. (With no spaces: * dot wab)
    The file will usually have someone’s name or e-mail address associated with it. It should be located in this folder: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book. For this example, we will call the file: test.wab.
  4. If the file is in this directory, but the address book entries do not appear in the Outlook 98/2000/Express address book, continue with the steps below.
    1. The following steps involve editing the Windows 95 Registry and are for advanced users ONLY. Making a mistake during the steps below could severely affect your computer and could possibly prevent it from booting. InterAlb assumes no responsibility for mistakes or errors that result of incorrectly using the Registry Editor.
    2. Close all programs.
    3. Click on Start | Run
    4. Type in: regedit and click OK.
    5. Click on the + to the left of HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    6. Click on the + to the left of Software
    7. Click on the + to the left of Microsoft
    8. Click on the + to the left of WAB
    9. Click on the + to the left of WAB4
    10. Click on the folder called Wab File Name
    11. In the right hand window, right click on Default and select Modify.
    12. Under Value Data, make sure it reads: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\test.wab.
    13. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.
    14. "This folder has been damaged. It will now be repaired. (Name of folder)"
    15. After hitting OK, a second message appears: "The folder is being accessed by another process and cannot be repaired."
  5. In this example, our damaged folder is the Outbox. Substitute your damaged folder name if different.
    1. Close Outlook 98/2000/Express.
    2. From the Desktop, click on Start | Find | Files or Folders.
    3. Ensure that the box marked Look In shows the C: drive and not another drive letter or folder.
    4. In the Named box, type: outbox.mbx and click Find Now.
    5. Rename the file to outbox.001. To rename a file, right-click on the filename, left-click on Rename.
    6. In the Named box, type: outbox.idx and click Find Now.
    7. Rename the file to outbox.002. To rename a file, right-click on the filename, left-click on Rename.
    8. Close this window and try sending mail again
